“The Sun Inn, a 5-star AA Rated Guest House, strikes me as a genuinely dog-friendly spot amidst Kirkby Lonsdale's historic charm, even if one experience suggests service hiccups can occur. With its AA Rosette-awarded dining and location near the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, it promises both culinary delight and scenic exploration. It's the kind of place where the chef's Michelin background meets the warmth of a family-run establishment, a blend that could be quite special.”

The Sun Inn, nestled in the heart of Kirkby Lonsdale, is often praised for its convenient location and historical charm. Guests frequently enjoy comfortable rooms, some boasting views of the churchyard, and appreciate the large bathrooms with both a bath and walk-in shower; the availability of complimentary drinks and fresh milk from the bar is also a plus. The delicious food, particularly the Sunday lunch and breakfast, is a highlight for many, though some have noted that the evening menu can be somewhat limited. check in was easy and staff helped regarding car parks. our room was spacious. there was a good choice of complementary drinks and fresh milk was available from the bar. the bathroom was large and modern.
we stayed in a beautiful room, but you get limited bath house products and no robes. I booked the room for the big bath, but you only had enough bathhouse salts for one bath.

The room had stone walls. It was lovely! The food was AMAZING!!! I enjoyed steak, parsnip soup, and smoked haddock. The Waiwrights beer was well kept.
The eating area lacked a cosy atmosphere. The lights were a little bright for dinner. I thought the tables, crockery, and glasses lacked sparkle and needed a good polish.

I booked a Beautiful Double Room. It was rather small. There was not much room on either side of the bed. The decor seemed unimaginative with all the brown. The wardrobe seemed dated and there were two fake leather arm chairs. The restaurant food quality seemed pretty average. I would probably not return due to the disappointing experience.

the location was quite convenient for exploring the area i received a parking permit that allowed me to park in nearby car parks the room overlooked a churchyard which was a pleasant sight it was clean and the bathroom had a large bath and a separate walk in shower. the shower products and extra towels were a nice addition
the evening menu was basic and somewhat expensive i also noticed a 10% service charge added to the bill this felt a bit much i found it off putting i decided not to eat there as a result this limited my dining options

Really good Stay with Excellent Breakfast

parking permithelpful staffhomemade granola
The hotel provided parking permits for the town's Pay & Display car parks, convenient (it was just a short walk). The staff members were helpful and amiable. Breakfast was excellent. I especially enjoyed the homemade granola. The hotel even offers walking boots, a very considerate touch.
The menu choices were somewhat limited during my dinner.
Location
9/10
The hotel's central location facilitated easy access to the town's attractions. The nearby churchyard views were pleasant to observe from our room, offering a tranquil and picturesque backdrop during our stay, which was very enjoyable.
Dining

The breakfast featured fresh milk in flasks for tea and coffee, a thoughtful detail. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, and the presentation was immaculate. The restaurant provided an excellent culinary experience with great ingredients.
